Boston Wrestling Legion in collaboration with Excel Academy High School is hosting another year of our Girls Wrestling Tournament Series! This series includes two events: the Boston Girls Early Bird tournament on Sunday 12/13/26, and the Boston Girls Last Chance tournament on Sunday 2/7/27. Teams may choose to participate in one or both tournaments. These events are open to female athletes competing as part of a school-sanctioned varsity wrestling program.


General info for both events:

Building Open: 7:45 am
Weigh-in: 8:00 am
Wrestling starts: 9:00 am at the earliest, most likely 9:30 am

Registration: All athletes must be registered as a team by their high school program. Even if there is only one athlete representing a school, she must be registered by her team.

Address: Excel Academy Charter High School, 401 Bremen St, East Boston, MA. (NOTE: there are 4 Excel Academy campuses. The other 3 are middle schools. Make sure you go to 401 Bremen St.)

Parking: Limited space on site. Buses can park at 402 Bennington St. It is a satellite parking lot underneath the highway overpass. It is a 5 minute walk from the school. I attached an image showing how to enter this lot.

Food and drink: We will have a full concession stand available with hot food, snacks, and drinks. Coaches receive a free meal and drink. The school has requested that we do not allow outside food to minimize trash left behind, as that has been an issue at previous events.

Payment: Cash, Venmo, check, or PO are all acceptable. Checks can be issued to Boston Wrestling Legion Incorporated, $30 per wrestler. Personalized invoices can be sent to school athletic departments as needed, and we have also included a template as an attachment to this message. We ask that teams who register 5 or fewer wrestlers complete payment on-site before the tournament. Please have payment ready or your athletes will not be allowed to compete. 

Awards: We will award medals to the top 3 place winners. There are no team or OW awards at this event.


Competition Format:

The competition format will be different for the two events. The Early Bird tournament will use grouped weights (Madison weights) and brackets of 8. The Last Chance tournament will use the official MIAA girls weight classes, and brackets as big as the competition pool. Multiple entries per team per weight class are allowed at both tournaments. 

Early Bird Format: 

For those who attended either of last year's events, this is the same format. Weight classes are Madison weights (grouped weights). We will sort the brackets by the exact order of weight. As in, the 8 lightest wrestlers are the first weight class, next 8 lightest are the next weight class, etc. Exceptions will be made if a Madison weight will span more than 2 official weight classes. For example, if the lightest weight class contains wrestlers who qualify for the 100 lbs weight class, then that weight class will only contain wrestlers who could also make 100 or 107. If there are multiple wrestlers from the same team in a weight class, a coach may choose to bump up a wrestler to the weight class above. 

We are planning to do 8-person brackets. Semifinal losers wrestle for 3rd. Consi-semi losers wrestle for 7th. Everyone gets 3 matches. If there are weight classes where this is not possible, we will try to use round robins or other formats to ensure athletes receive at least 3 matches.

Seeding will be based on the previous year's postseason results. Exceptions may be made for special circumstances.

Last Chance Format:

We will utilize the official weight classes of 100, 107, 114, 120, 126, 132, 138, 145, 152, 165, 185, 235. Teams may enter multiple wrestlers per weight class as long as no bracket exceeds 24 wrestlers total. We will create double elimination brackets for all weights where there are 6 or more entrants, and will use round robin brackets for weight classes with 5 or fewer entrants. 

Seeding will be based on the current season's win/loss record as well as the previous season's postseason results.
