Participation Policies

The policies listed below apply to participants in all Boston Wrestling Legion programs. Individual sites will have their own policies as well, but these are universal rules that apply across all sites.

At Boston Wrestling Legion, our top priority is the safety, health, and well-being of every athlete in our program. We are committed to providing a structured, positive environment where young wrestlers can learn discipline, teamwork, and confidence. To maintain this environment and ensure fairness to all families, we ask that each participant and parent carefully review and understand the following policies.

The safety of every child comes before all else. Coaches and staff reserve the right to modify activities, remove participants from drills, or dismiss a child from practice or competition if safety concerns arise. These decisions are made solely in the best interest of all wrestlers and will always err on the side of caution.

If a child appears to be ill, injured, contagious, or poses a health risk to others, they may be asked to sit out or be sent home for that day’s session. This includes visible symptoms such as fever, skin infections, rashes, persistent coughing, or open wounds. Children must be toilet-trained -- any child wearing diapers, pull-ups, Goodnites, or other similar item will be asked not to participate for the day.

Coaches may also withhold participation for behavioral reasons if a child’s actions create an unsafe environment. An unsafe environment could include (but is not limited to) one where children are running around while wrestling drills are taking place, children opting out of technique instruction and potentially missing safety information, or children repeatedly ignoring coach instructions. These types of behaviors create unpredictability in such a way that the risk of injury is increased to an unsafe level. We appreciate your cooperation in helping us keep all participants healthy and safe.

While we work hard to support every athlete, participation in this program is dependent on an athlete's ability to maintain safety. Any child may be dismissed from the program at any time if their behavior, attitude, or conduct—or that of their parent or guardian—undermines the safety, instruction, or integrity of the program. Dismissals may occur without prior warning if warranted by the situation. We strive to handle all matters respectfully and fairly, but our responsibility to the safety of all participants must always come first.

Enrollment fees secure your child’s spot in the program and help cover fixed costs such as insurance, facility use, coaching staff, and equipment. For that reason, we do not offer refunds, credits, or transfers for missed practices, injury, illness, schedule conflicts, or dismissal from the program. We also do not offer per-diem rates or partial-season pricing. This policy ensures that we can maintain consistent operations and provide a high-quality experience for all athletes. We do offer financial aid and discounted rates to families that qualify, and encourage anyone who is unsure about the affordability of our program to contact us by email. Also, our programs typically offer a one-week trial period, so we encourage families that are unsure about their child's interest to attend the first week before submitting payment.

We believe in open, respectful communication between parents, athletes, and coaches. If you have a question or concern, please bring it directly to a coach or team administrator in a calm and constructive manner. Negative behavior, hostility, or public criticism of staff or other participants will not be tolerated. Our community thrives when we all work together to promote sportsmanship and respect.

Boston Wrestling Legion proudly supports an inclusive environment and welcomes children of all abilities to participate in our program. Many athletes with various disabilities have found both community and success through our training, and we are committed to fostering that same opportunity for every child who wishes to wrestle. While we hope to serve every athlete, we must also recognize that certain disabilities or conditions may pose safety concerns for the child or for others. In those cases, our staff will work with families to determine the most appropriate and safe form of participation. Safety remains our top priority at all times. One of our long-term goals is to create a Unified program specifically designed for children whose disabilities may prevent them from safely participating in our traditional practices. We are actively seeking funding and resources to help make this program a reality. If you know of potential donors, sponsors, or grants that could support this effort, we would greatly appreciate being contacted directly.

By enrolling your child in any Boston Wrestling Legion program, you acknowledge that you have read, understood, and agreed to abide by these policies. These guidelines are designed to protect all participants and preserve the positive environment that makes our program successful. Thank you for your understanding and partnership. Together, we can create a safe, supportive, and rewarding wrestling experience for every athlete.
